Christina intervistata da Juliette

Juliette: Hi Christina, you are volunteering in Casa Lamar. So can you tell me more about you? Where do you come from etc.

Christina: So, I’m from Cyprus, I lived in UK for 9 years. I went there to study microbiology and I ended up working there. A few years ago, I returned back home, and I stayed there for three years. And then I wanted a different experience, so I ended up in Casa Lamar.

Juliette: Ok! So, can you tell me why did you choose the project? This one especially?

Christina: When I first read that this project had to do with people that had addiction problems and they had AIDS, I felt like a calling, so I really wanted to get this project because, normally our society when it hears these things, we immediately discriminate these people. But I strongly believe that addiction is connected to trauma or hurt and that’s why people are getting addicted to drugs. As a society we mostly focus on what the drugs are getting away from the person. Like their lives, their health, their connection with other people. But I think the question we need to answer is what it gives them. And I think if they are hurt, it gives them a sense of peace, or control, or calmness, and I think that’s why it’s difficult for them to stop taking drugs. So, I wanted to come here and see by myself, and just let these people know that I want them to be part of our community, because I think community and connection is what they need the most.

Juliette: Ok, what do you expect of the project? What are your expectations?

Christina: I really hope that I can give whatever I can to the people that here in Casa Lamar and be able to connect with them, talk with them, learn from their lives, and their experiences. And I want them to know that I am a friend, that they can come talk to me. Basically, I want to establish connection.

Juliette: Ok, Ok. Do you have anything else to say? You want to tell us or?

Christina: That I am very excited I am here. Even though I don’t speak the language yet, but I feel very welcome, and that is really nice, is brilliant and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Juliette: Ciao Christina, stai facendo volontariato a Casa Lamar. Quindi puoi dirmi di più su di te? Da dove vieni ecc.

Christina: Quindi, vengo da Cipro, ho vissuto nel Regno Unito per 9 anni. Sono andata lì per studiare microbiologia e ho finito per lavorarci. Qualche anno fa sono tornato a casa e sono rimasto lì per tre anni. E poi volevo un’esperienza diversa, così sono finito a Casa Lamar.

Juliette: Ok! Allora, puoi dirmi perché hai scelto il progetto? Questo in particolare?

Christina: Quando ho letto per la prima volta che questo progetto aveva a che fare con persone che avevano problemi di dipendenza e avevano l’AIDS, mi sono sentito come una chiamata, quindi volevo davvero ottenere questo progetto perché, normalmente la nostra società quando sente queste cose, abbiamo immediatamente discriminare queste persone. Ma credo fermamente che la dipendenza sia collegata a traumi o ferite ed è per questo che le persone stanno diventando dipendenti dalle droghe. Come società, ci concentriamo principalmente su ciò che le droghe stanno allontanando dalla persona. Come le loro vite, la loro salute, la loro connessione con altre persone. Ma penso che la domanda a cui dobbiamo rispondere sia ciò che dà loro. E penso che se sono feriti, dà loro un senso di pace, controllo o calma, e penso che sia per questo che è difficile per loro smettere di prendere droghe. Quindi, volevo venire qui e vedere da solo, e far sapere a queste persone che voglio che facciano parte della nostra comunità, perché penso che la comunità e la connessione siano ciò di cui hanno più bisogno.

Juliette: Ok, cosa ti aspetti dal progetto? Quali sono le tue aspettative?

Christina: Spero davvero di poter dare tutto quello che posso alle persone che sono qui a Casa Lamar e di poter entrare in contatto con loro, parlare con loro, imparare dalle loro vite e dalle loro esperienze. E voglio che sappiano che sono un amico, che possono venire a parlare con me. Fondamentalmente, voglio stabilire una connessione.

Juliette: Ok, ok. Hai altro da dire? Ci vuoi dire o?

Christina: Che sono molto emozionato di essere qui. Anche se non parlo ancora la lingua, mi sento davvero il benvenuto, e questo è davvero bello, è fantastico e non vedo l’ora di vedere cosa succederà dopo.
